Architecture Design I
Project 1
Project task & overview
"Expressions through Architecture Design Elements and Principles."
This project introduces the language and visual tools of design through architectural design elements and principles, processes and approaches in generating ideas and composition, developing design, creating geometric 2D artworks, then extrude and transform them into 3D form.
It requires the application of elements (line, shape, color, value, form, texture, and space), principles (balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, unity, and variety etc.), compositions (rule of thirds, golden ratio, datum, centralized, gridded, etc.), transformation techniques (addition, subtraction, interlocking, surface articulation, etc.).
Outcome: Showcase exploration process and understand on the design process and application of architectural design elements, design principles and form transformation techniques
Design Intention
To preliminary use the design element of shapes, the design principle of scale and proportion, the composition of gradation, the descriptive word of layering and the technique of interlocking transformation to further develop on initial tattoo stamps to a final cube model to show the application of these design concepts. In our case, we developed it into the final concept
Reflection
I have learnt the elements and principles and how to apply them to actual design. I have also learnt how a design process is carried out. A lot of experience was gained in developing the tattoo stamps in an organized manner. Besides, transforming the tattoo stamps into 3D models was a new experience for me too.
Beside that, different type of composition were also being used and considered during the design process, which make it more complicated and interesting.
In part 4, I've learned how to make a proper model for the first time and learned about the materials of the model, which lead me to make a model with the idea from part 3.
In part 5, a more detailed process of model making has surprised me, I've experienced a more complicated process of model making and idea thinking.
Overall, I've been trained and learnt about basic process of idea thinking and making detail out of it. In future, I think I should improve on details of the model.
